About this Destination

When the Pantabangan Dam was completed in 1974, the original town of Pantabangan was submerged beneath the rising waters. The stone church built during the Spanish colonial era, the municipal hall, homes, and the town cemetery — all disappeared beneath the reservoir.

Every dry season, typically from March to May, when water levels drop significantly, the haunting stone foundations of the old church and surrounding buildings emerge from the lake. This has become one of the most unique heritage tourism attractions in the Philippines — a literal town rising from the water.
